Mary McCusker

Lately I have been using various mediums (low relief wood carving, paper cutting, painting, drawing and photography) to represent grass and trees and the shadows they cast.   Some of my work can be described as portraits of people, places, everyday objects and natural elements of the world around me.  The unifying theme is the act of looking carefully and spending time absorbing and representing the image and my response to the subject as a way of honoring the subject and through my work offering a closer look at what we all see and don't see every day.   My  most recent work is portraits of particular leaves showing the leaf, a paper cut of the leaf and of the pattern of the veins of that leaf.

I invite you to visit my website to see related work - writing on sticks, labyrinths, paper sculpture.
